VICH is an international cooperative effort among Japan, the United States and European Union, with an objective to make innovative and effective medicinal products available to the animals of the world within reasonable time and at reasonable prices. It aims to shorten the time required for development through the international harmonization of the technical requirements for registration, by eliminating unnecessary duplication of various experiments conducted in each country thereby to realize the optimum use of human, animal end monetary resources.

Following the first public conference, VICH 1, held in November, 1999, in Brussels, Belgium, VICH 2 will serve to disseminate the updated information concerning the results of discussions among VICH committees after Brussels conference. At the same time, VICH 2 aims to make the related information available to other countries so that they can compare with each other and encourage debates among various countries, regions and fields on its on-going activities.
